Research Papers : Preparation of Modified-Poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide)/Clay Nanocomposite

Abstract

Exfoliated modified-poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene oxide) (MPPO)/Clay nanocomposites were successfully prepared via blending with clay in which polystyrene was anchored. The clay dispersion was quantified by both X-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). They showed enhanced thermal stability, as measured by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), relative to commercial MPPO without clay, even when as little as 0.1 wt% of clay was added. However, the glass transition temperature decreased with increasing the clay content. The mechanical property of MPPO/Clay nanocomposite was found to exhibit increased tensile strength behavior with increasing clay content.

초록

폴리스티렌이 삽입처리된 클레이를 이용하여 변성 폴리페닐렌옥사이드/클레이 나노복합재료를 제조하였다. 클레이의 분산상태는 XRD와 TEM을 이용하여 확인하였다. TGA분석결과, 상업용 변성폴리페닐렌옥사이드와 비교하여 변성폴리페닐렌옥사이드/클레이 나노복합재료는 0.1 wt%의 클레이 첨가로도 열 안정성이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다. 한편 나노복합재료의 유리전이온도는 클레이 함량이 증가함에 따라다소 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 제조한 나노복합재료의 기계적 성질 측정결과, 클레이 함량이 증가함에 따라 인장강도가 증가함을 확인하였다
