Research Papers : A Study on the Effects of Silica Aluminum Sulfate on Coagulation

Abstract

For the purpose of increasing the coagulation efficiency, the coagulation characteristics of silica aluminum sulfate (SAS) that was synthesized by mixing aluminum sulfate with activated silica was investigated. As a result, the activation of silica which was synthesized at temperature of 20 ℃ and concentration of 1.5 % was better than that were produced at other temperatures and concentrations. Results of coagulation characteristics of molecular weight distribution has revealed that the coagulation efficiency of activated silica had higher values at molecular weight of more than 10000. To compare the coagulation efficiency of SAS and liquid aluminum sulfate (LAS), coagulation treatment of raw water (i.e. Nakdong river water) was performed. The experimental results showed that SAS coagulant was very effective for the removal of turbidity andn algae. In addition, dosage of activated silica as a coagulation support agent was particularly effective in the range of 1 ~ 2 mg/L.

연구논문 : 규산황산알루미늄의 응집 효과에 관한 연구

초록

응집 효율의 향상을 목적으로 황산알루미늄과 활성규산을 혼합하여 제조한 규산황산알루미늄의 응집 효과에 대해 검토를 행하였다. 실험 결과, 규산의 최적 활성화 조건은 온도 20 ℃, 농도 1.5%인 것으로 나타났으며, 활성규산의 분자량별 응집실험 결과, 분자량이 10000 이상일 때 가장 큰 효과를 가지는 것을 알 수 있었다. 낙동강 물을 원수로 하여 실험한 결과, 황산알루미늄과 같은 기존 응집제에 비하여 규산황산알루미늄이 조류 및 탁도 제거에 보다 효과적인 것을 알 수 있었으며, 응집 보조제로서의 활성규산의 주입량은 1 ~ 2 mg/L이 적당한 것으로 나타났다.
