Research Papers : Treatment of High Concentration Wastewater in MBR ( Membrane Bioreactor ) Process

Abstract

In this study, an experimental work has been carried out for a treatment of high concentration organic wastewater using a membrane bioreactor (MBR). Organic wastewater that was synthetically produced, was supplied to the reaction tank at 2.0 kg/m(3)day BOD loading with aeration when needed. The removal rate of BOD and COD to MBR was measured. To select an optimum membrane meterial that suited the MBR process, critical flux of the membrane process was measured. The results showed that a hydrophilic membrane was more stable than a lipophilic membrane in the biomass filtration. Moreover, UF membranes was found to be more efficient than MF for MBR in the application of activated sludge removal. The removal rate of CODcr and BOD5 was more than 98% at 2 kg/m(3)day BOD loading.

본 연구에서는 MBR공정을 이용하여 고농도 유기성폐수를 처리하고자 하였다. 유기성폐수는 합성폐수를 제조하여 BOD 용적부하 2.0 kg/m(3) day로 폭기조인 반응조에 공급하여 MBR에 의한 BOD, COD 제거율을 측정하였다. 또한 분리막의 재질에 따른 MBR의 적응성을 판단하기 위해 critical flux를 이용한 막분리 공정을 실험하였다. 실험결과 critical flux를 통한 분리막 적합성 실험에서는 친수성 계의 막이 소수성 계의 막보다 생물학적처리 공정에 더 적합하다는 것을 확인할 수 있었고 UF 막이 MF 막보다 MBR적용에 효율적임을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 공정을 이용한 유기물제거는 CODcr, BOD5를 측정한 결과 98% 이상의 높은 처리율을 보였다.
