Research Papers : A Study on the Rubber Compound with Enhanced Visible Efficiency at Night
Abstract
A rubber compound that has characteristic of an enhanced visible efficiency at nignt was prepared from a mixture of ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), styrene ethylene butylene styrene triblock copolymer (SEBS), fluorescence pigment, phosphorence pigment, and glass bead. The visible efficiency of EPDM compound was much better than that of SEBS compound. Although the mechanical properties (hardness, tensile strength, elongation at break, and modulus) of SEBS compound were better than that of EPDM, they were shown to have a big change after aging. This study showed that a rubber compound prepared with glass beads spreaded on the surface of EPDM compound at 80% of optimum vulcanization time had the best visible efficiency at night.

Ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM), styrene ethylene butylene triblock copolymer (SEBS)와 형광, 축광 안료 및 glass bead등을 주원료로 사용하여 야간에 가시성능이 개선된 고무 배합물을 제조하였다. 가시성능은 EPDM 배합물이 SEBS 배합물에 비해 우수하였다. 기계적 물성(경도, 인장강도, 신장율, 모듈러스)은 SEBS 배합물이 EPDM 배합물보다 우수하였지만 노화 후 물성 변화가 컸다. 최적 가황 시간의 80%에서 배합물 표면에 glass bead를 분산시킨 EPDM 배합물이 가장 좋은 가시성능을 나타내었다.
