Research Papers : Stabilization of Nanometer-sized Silver-Ethylene Glycol Colloid Prepared with Using Polyacrylamide-co-acrylic acid

Abstract

Nanometer-sized silver colloid was prepared by using raw materials such as silver nitrate (precursor), ethylene glycol (solvent and reducing agent), and PAA-co-AA (dispersion stabilizer). In particular, the silver colloids were prepared by varying the amount of dispersion stabilizer, and the size and distribution of silver particles contained in the colloids were investigated. As the amount of dispersion stabilizer increased, the particle size became smaller and its distribution became narrower. Typically, when the ratio of PAA-co-AA/AgNO3was 4, silver particles less than 10 nm were found in the silver colloid. Also, the growth degree of silver particles at 1, 3, 24, 72, and 120 h after the preparation was studied using UV-spectrometer to investigate dispersion stability with the lapsed time. The absorbance of UV showed similar values for the samples that had lapsed more than 72 h; this indicates that the stability of silver particles was maintained due to the dispersion stability that retarded the aggregation of silver particles.

초록

질산은(전구체), 에틸렌글리콜(용매 + 환원제) 그리고 PAA-co-AA (분산안정제)를 원료물질로 하여 나노크기의 은 콜로이드를 제조하였다. 특히 분산안정제 주입량을 변화시키면서 은 콜로이드를 제조한 후 콜로이드에 포함된 은 입자의 크기와 분포를 조사하였다. 분산 안정제의 주입량이 증가함에 따라, 입자의 크기는 작아졌으며 입자의 분포는 폭이 협소해졌다. 대체적으로 PAA-co-AA/AgNO3비가 4인 은 콜로이드에서는 10 nm이하의 은 나노입자를 발견할 수 있었다. 시간이 경과함에 따른 분산 안정성을 조사하기 위하여, 제조 후 1, 3, 24, 72, 120 h 방치 후 입자의 성장에 대한 변화를 조사하였다. 제조 72 h 이후부터 UV 흡수도가 유사한 값을 나타내었는데, 이는 분산 안정제가 은 입자 응집을 방해하여 은 입자의 안정한 상태를 유지함을 의미한다.
