Research Papers : Effects of Alumina-Biofilter for Treatment of Foul Odor

Abstract

Pure-Al_2O_3 filter, Ni-Al_2O_3 filter, and Ni-Al_2O_3 biofilter were prepared for removal of foul odor of trimethylamine[(CH_3)_3N] by biological method. The removal efficiency of the foul odor was measured using pure-Al_2O_3 filter, Ni-Al_2O_3 filter, and Ni-Al_2O_3 biofilter in the method of multi-filter. The characteristic analyses of the pure-Al_2O_3 filter were conducted by SEM and BET. The alumina filters were sintered at 1500℃. The specific surface area of Ni-Al_2O_3 filter was shown more 1.07m^2/g than that of pure--Al_2O_3 filter in the BET analysis. The removal efficiency of the foul odor with Ni-Al_2O_3 filter was good in the range from 15℃ to 25℃. It was resulted that the removal efficiency of the foul odor was appeared in the order of Ni-Al_2O_3 biofilter (95%), Ni-Al_2O_3 filter (85%), and pure-Al_2O_3 filter (83%).

트리메틸아민[(CH_3)_3N] 악취를 생물학적으로 처리하기 위하여 아루미나(Al_2O_3)와 알루미나에 니켈(Ni)을 첨가하여 필터(filter)를 제조하였다. 순수한 알루미나 필터, 니켈첨가 알루미나 필터 그리고 미생물을 담지시킨 니켈첨가 알루미나 biofilter를 다단식 실험장치에 설치하여 악취처리 효율을 측정하였다. 알루미나 필터의 특성은 미세구조를 SEM 및 BET법으로 분석하였다. 알루미나 biofilter의 소결 온도는 1500℃이며, Ni-Al_2O_3 필터의 비표면적이 pure-Al_2O_3 필터의 비표면적보다 1.07 m^2/g 더 크게 측정되었다. Ni-Al_2O_3 filter의 악취제거효율은 15~25℃에서 높게 나타났으며, pure-Al_2O_3 필터(83%), Ni-Al_2O_3 필터 (85.5%), 그리고 Ni-Al_2O_3 biofilter (95%)의 순으로 악취제거효율이 높게 나타났다.
