Research Papers : The Manufacture of Activated Carbon Flber Assemblies Filter using the Glass Fibers and Their Adsorption Performance
Abstract
The objectives of this study were to develop a process for manufacturing a new, low cost activated carbon fiber assemblies filter from glass fiber; to measure and compare the surface area, pore size distribution, COD and phenol removal ability of the manufactured activated carbon fiber assemblies filter; and to establish an application technique for the advanced watertreatment of various pollutants. Glass fiber based activated carbon fiber assemblies filter was manufactured using the ZnCl_2 method. The optimum operating temperatures, time and the amount of PAN for activation were 400℃, 80min and 1.2g respectively. With these conditions, the BET surface area and average pore diameter were 1610m^2/g and 13.2Å, reaspectively. The results showed the removal efficiency (C/Co) was 7% for 45ppm of industrial wastewater concentration; the removal efficiency (C/Co) was 5% for 100ppm of phenol concentration; and the removal efficiency (C/Co) of COD was 8% for 120ppm of AOS (alphaolefim sulfonate) concentration.

본 연구에서는 상업적으로 대량생산되어 값이 저렴한 유리섬유를 이용 새로운 저가의 활성탄소섬유복합체 필터를 제조하였다. 그리고 제조된 활성탄소섬유복합체 필터들의 비표면적, 세공크기분포, COD 제거율 그리고 페놀 제거유을 측정하여 비교·검토하였고, 수처리용 필터제조기술을 확립하였다. 필터제조시 ZnCl_2 활성화법을 적용하였고, 활성화 최적조건은 활성화온도 400℃, 활성화시간80 min, PAN 1.2g이었고, 이때 비표면적은 1610m^2/g이었고, 평균세공크기는 13.2Å이었다. 제조된 활성탄소섬유복합체 필터들을 산업폐수, 페놀, 계면활성제 인공폐수에 적용하여 시간에 따른 유입수(Co)에 대한 유출수(C)의 비율(C/Co)로 흡착실험에 따른 제거율을 나타낸 결과 산업폐수의 경우 COD에 대한 C/Co(%)가 7%(원수농도: 45ppm), 페놀에 대한 C/Co(%)가 5%(원수농도: 100ppm) 그리고 계면활성제 인공폐수는 COD에 대한 C/Co(%)가 8%(원수농도: 120ppm)까지 낮게 나타났고 흡착능이 좋은 것을 알 수 있었다.
