Preparation of Polypropylene / Montmorillonite Exfoliated Nanocomposite
Abstract
An organically modified layered silicate (ODTMA-MMT) was prepared by an ion-exchange reaction of sodium montmorillonite and octadecyl trimethylammonium bromide. The interlayer spacing of the sodium montmorillonite was 12.2Å, while that of the ODTMA-MMT was 21.3Å. The amine group of modified MMT (APS-MMT) was prepared by the intercalation of 3-aminopropyltriehoxysilane (APS) into ODTMA-MMT. The intercalated APS had no effect on the d-spacing values between silicate layers. To prepare the PP/MMT exfoliated nanocomposite, APS-MMT was reacted with polypropylene-graft-maleicanhydride (PP-MMT) and then PP was melt-mixed with PP-MMT at 200℃ for 8 min by using a Brabender mixer. From the results of XRD and TEM, it was found that the monolayer silicate was dispersed in PP matrix.

친유기성 montmorillonite (MMT)를 Na+-MMT와 옥타데실트리메칠암모늄 브로마이드와의 이온교환반응으로 제조하였다(ODTMA-MMT). Na+-MMT의 실리케이트 층간거리는 12.2Å이여, 제조된 ODTMA-MMT의 실리케이트 층간거리는 21.3Å이였다. 그리고 MMT의 층간에 아민기를 도입하기 위하여 3-aminopropyltriethoxy silane(APS)를 ODTMA-MMT에 삽입하였다(APS-MMT). 그러나 삽입된 APS에 의한 MMT의 층간거리는 변화가 없었다. PP/MMT 박리형 나노복합재료를 제조하기 위하여 APS-MMT를 polyporpylene-graft-maleicanhydrid와 반응시킨 후(PP-MMT), 폴리프로필렌과 PP-MMT를 200℃에서 8분동안 Brabender로 혼합하였다. 이것을 XRD와 TEM으로 확인한 결과 단일층의 실리케이트가 폴리프로필렌 메트릭스에 분산되어 있음을 확인하였다.
